Commending Community One Stop Shop Volunteers During the COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Submitted by: Gordon MacDonald, Edinburgh Pentlands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 30 July 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22336

That the Parliament commends the volunteers at the Community One Stop Shop (COSS) in Broomhouse, Edinburgh, for contributing nearly 200 hours of voluntary work in June 2020; understands that COSS is a charity that offers advice services, one-to-one employability support, ancillary services and a self-referral food bank; believes that, like many other key workers during the pandemic, all of the volunteers who work with the charity are going above and beyond to help others in need; notes that COSS has been busier than usual over the last five months; echoes the recent statement of Carol Swan, Project Manager at COSS, who thanked "the real heroes of the project – the amazing staff and volunteers", and recognises the crucial role that COSS plays in alleviating the effects of poverty in the area and supporting many people through this time of crisis.
