Floating Offshore Wind Hub at Port of Aberdeen

  • Submitted by: Kevin Stewart, Aberdeen Central, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 15 April 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12828

That the Parliament congratulates Port of Aberdeen on moving closer towards becoming a strategic hub for floating offshore wind in Scotland; notes that the port's proposed South Harbour upgrade project has progressed to Stage 2 "priority" status in the Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council's Strategic Investment Model; understands that this upgrade will involve a capital dredge project to provide a chart datum of suitable depth for the majority of ScotWind and Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) project turbine designs, supporting turbine integrations and foundation assemblies in combination with South Harbour's expansive laydown area and ultra heavy-lift capacity; believes that this will position the port to handle major component exchanges with tow-in, tow-out operations in the future, and hopes that this can play a major part in the north east's just transition, helping to deliver Scotland's offshore wind ambitions.
