S5W-20596: Liam McArthur (Orkney Islands)

Scottish Liberal Democrats

Date lodged: 13 December 2018

To ask the Scottish Government when it last held discussions to identify further locations for community custody units, and what the outcome was.

Answered by: Humza Yousaf 7 January 2019

I have asked Colin McConnell, Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service (SPS), to respond. His response is as follows:

Discussions have not yet taken place to identify specific locations for the three remaining Community Custody Units (CCUs). As a phased approach is being taken in respect of the CCUs, a test the concept and strategy of the first two units will be undertaken before progressing with the remaining three units. This will ensure that the most effective and efficient approach is taken to meeting the needs of communities and women in SPS care.
