Parliamentary debates and questions

S5W-20201: Alex Cole-Hamilton (Edinburgh Western)

Scottish Liberal Democrats

Date lodged: 27 November 2018

To ask the Scottish Government whether child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) referrals and rejections are monitored by ethnic group and if (a) so, whether it will provide a breakdown of these for each of the last five years and (b) not, what its position is on whether such data should be collected.

Answered by: Clare Haughey 11 December 2018

Data is not centrally held by ISD, CAMHS data is submitted by an aggregate return for all therapies by each NHS Health Board. We are unable to split this data by ethnic group.

The Government’s position is that this data should be collected in the future once IT systems allow for this to happen. Better data on ethnicity will help ensure that high quality services are always available to treat mental health problems.
