S5W-18986: Miles Briggs (Lothian)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 21 September 2018

To ask the Scottish Government how many people have had their stomach pumped in each year since 2007, broken down by NHS board.

Answered by: Jeane Freeman 4 October 2018

The following table shows the number of gastric lavage procedures carried out in Scotland in each year since 2007 when a person has been admitted to hospital. Due to changes in clinical practice, gastric lavage is not generally carried out within an A&E department but these figures will not include any that may have been. Due to the small number of cases, it is not possible to provide a breakdown by NHS Board.
