To ask the Scottish Government what its position is on a so-called tourist tax being introduced in Edinburgh.
Answered by: Fiona Hyslop 1 August 2018
The Scottish Government is committed to making local taxation more progressive whilst improving the financial accountability of local government and is always open to further dialogue on options for reform.
However, Scottish Ministers have been clear that they will not consider requests to explore a Tourist Tax unless the tourism and hospitality industry are involved from the outset and their long-term interests and the sustainability of tourism are fully recognised.
