To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S5W-16283 by Shona Robison on 10 May 2018, whether the proposed suicide prevention plan will include a section regarding how to reduce the suicide rate among veterans.
Answered by: Shona Robison 29 May 2018
The proposed suicide prevention plan, on which we recently ran an engagement process, is currently being refined in the light of the various responses provided by individuals and organisations, including the Scottish Veterans Commissioner. The overarching aim of the plan will be to continue the long-term downward trend in the suicide rate in the general population, including people who have served in the armed forces.
The next update to Parliament will be in Autumn 2018 and will provide an opportunity to demonstrate what we have done and our future intentions in responding to this latest report on veterans health and wellbeing.
