S5W-16266: Maurice Corry (West Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 30 April 2018

To ask the Scottish Government how it is working with the NHS to establish a distinctive Scottish approach to veterans’ health at (a) a strategic and (b) an operational level, and whether it plans to (i) refresh the membership or remit of the Armed Forces and Veterans Health Joint Group and (ii) establish a network on veterans' health to help deliver this.

Answered by: Shona Robison 10 May 2018

We welcome the work carried out by the Scottish Veterans Commissioner and the publication of his report Veterans Health and Wellbeing: A Distinctive Scottish Approach. We will consider the findings and recommendations carefully, including how we respond to the challenges raised.

The Armed Forces and Veterans Joint Group, an expert group involving stakeholders and other key interests, will carefully consider the recommendations made. The publication of the report is an opportune time to refresh the terms of reference and strategic direction of work.
