S5W-14511: Maurice Corry (West Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 8 February 2018

To ask the Scottish Government what discussions the steering group for its Marine Litter Strategy has had regarding the issue of litter at the head of Loch Long in Arrochar.

Answered by: Roseanna Cunningham 2 March 2018

The Marine Litter Strategy Steering Group (MLSSG) discussed the litter sink at Arrochar during their meeting 7 September 2017. They agreed that an expert group should meet at Arrochar with the community to discuss a work plan to help tackle the litter problem. An expert group met at Arrochar 6 December 2017, which included Oceanographers, Biologists, Engineers, the Local Authority and the Community Council, chaired by Marine Scotland Policy. A draft work plan was produced following these discussions and was shared with the MLSSG for their approval at their next meeting 25 January 2018. MLSSG approved the work plan and Marine Scotland is progressing with it by securing land owners' consent and finalising budgets ahead of further action.
