S5O-02283: David Torrance (Kirkcaldy)

Scottish National Party

Date lodged: 20 June 2018

To ask the Scottish Government what progress it is making with removing child burial and cremation fees.

Answered by: Angela Constance 27 June 2018

The death of a child is one of the most tragic experiences that anyone could go through so no one needs the additional stress of not being able to pay for burial or cremation fees.

Therefore I am pleased to say that on 30 May the Scottish Government and COSLA announced a joint commitment to remove local authority burial and cremation fees for children aged under 18.

This agreement is supported by Scottish Government funding.

The Scottish Government and COSLA are working together to finalise details of the agreement and to ensure that this implemented across Scotland as quickly as possible.
