Scottish National Party

Date lodged: 14 February 2018

To ask the Scottish Government what the top export markets are for salmon and whisky in terms of value and volume.

Answered by: Fergus Ewing 21 February 2018

HMRC figures released on the 9th February show that the top export market for whisky remains the EU, with exports in 2017 to the EU accounting for nearly a third (31%) of total whisky exports. The EU is also the highest value market, with exports worth nearly
£1.4 billion last year, an increase of 11% on the previous year.

It is a similar story for salmon. The EU imported £282 million worth of Scottish salmon last year. The trend is one of a market of increasing value – in 2014, it was worth 34 per cent of total export, now the EU is worth 47%.
