To ask the Scottish Government how many cyclists have been involved in road traffic accidents in each year since 1999, broken down by local authority area, and what information it has regarding how many of the cyclists were wearing a helmet, also broken down by the cost to each NHS board of treating those who (i) wore and (ii) did not wear a helmet.

Reported Road Casualties Scotland provides information on injury road accidents reported to the police. The latest statistics available are up to 2016.

The following table Shows the number of pedal cyclists who were involved in injury road accidents by local authority area.

 Although the number of pedal cyclists involved in accidents has increased from a low of 740 in 2007 to 808 in 2016 (9%), there has been a 47% rise over the same period in the distance travelled, as shown in the following table.
