S5W-12160: Finlay Carson (Galloway and West Dumfries)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 24 October 2017

To ask the Scottish Government what consultation it had with VisitScotland prior to the announcement to close Tourist Information centres in the south west.

Answered by: Fiona Hyslop 7 November 2017

As part of the sponsorship arrangements that are in place with non-departmental public bodies, Scottish Ministers and their Officials meet regularly with VisitScotland across a range of operational and strategic issues to help grow sustainable and inclusive tourism across Scotland.

VisitScotland’s strategic guidance directs it to pursuing this growth through “the delivery of a modern visitor information strategy, which makes best use of existing digital and physical assets." This approach supports that delivery.
