S5W-11530: Adam Tomkins (Glasgow)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 26 September 2017

To ask the Scottish Government, prior to its announcement of support for what it called Catalonia’s right to self-determination and to call a referendum, what assessment it made of Spain’s written constitution and legal framework.

Answered by: Fiona Hyslop 25 October 2017

The Scottish Government is aware of Spain’s written constitution and legal framework and has taken it into consideration in calling for dialogue between the Spanish and Catalan governments to identify a way forward to resolve a complex situation, which complies with the rule of law but also respects democracy and allows the people of Catalonia to choose their own future.
