S5W-09088: Claudia Beamish (South Scotland)

Scottish Labour

Date lodged: 2 May 2017

To ask the Scottish Government, in light of it having had the power to do so since September 2016 and the commitment made in its programme for government, when it will increase carers allowance, and whether the first payment will be backdated to that date.

I refer the member to the answer to question S5W-00812 on 29 June 2016. All answers to written Parliamentary Questions are available on the Parliament's website, the search facility for which can be found at http://www.parliament.scot/parliamentarybusiness/28877.aspx

It would not have been feasible to implement the increase from September 2016. UK Regulations, which transfer competence for Carer’s Allowance to the Scottish Parliament, will not come into force until later this month. Scottish legislation will then need to be introduced, scrutinised and agreed by the Scottish Parliament.
