To ask the Scottish Government what representation it has made to the (a) Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, (b) Law Society of Scotland and (c) Faculty of Advocates regarding the 12.5% increase in the levy paid by solicitors by to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission.
Answered by: Annabelle Ewing 20 April 2017
The Scottish Government does not have a role in setting the levy which is to be paid by the legal profession. It did not respond to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission’s consultation on its draft budget and operating plan. It is for the Commission to set this levy which is to be paid by the legal profession, in accordance with the Legal Profession and Legal Aid (Scotland) Act 2007.
