To ask the Scottish Government how it will continue to involve local authorities in the provision of employability support services when the Work First Scotland and Work Able Scotland contracts begin in April 2017.
Answered by: Jamie Hepburn 3 February 2017
The Scottish Government is committed to providing continuity of service for those who need it in 2017-2018, in advance of a full programme of support beginning in April 2018. We are working collaboratively with our partners, including local authorities, on the design and delivery of our devolved employment support programmes.
Local Authority partners were key players in the consultation process for future employment support in Scotland, including bilateral and collective engagement and consultation with Local Authorities, SOLACE and COSLA. Local Authorities will continue to be engaged in the implementation of new services, including the integration and alignment agenda, through representation by SLAED on Scotland’s Devolved Employment Services Advisory Group, and the Scottish Government’s Integration and Alignment Advisory Group.
Local Authorities have been consistently involved in the service and policy development stages of our new devolved programmes, and the Scottish Government is committed to continuing to work in partnership with Local Authorities as we move forward.
