S5O-00783: Linda Fabiani (East Kilbride)

Scottish National Party

Date lodged: 8 March 2017

To ask the Scottish Government how disabled people who wish to work in the NHS can be supported.

Answered by: Maureen Watt 15 March 2017

The Scottish Government and NHSScotland is fully committed to equality and diversity, and ensuring that these values are fully respected by, and reflected in the policies and practice of NHSScotland.

This includes fair and consistent recruitment policies and provision of a supportive environment for all groups of staff, including disabled people and is underpinned by local and national implementation of both the Staff Governance Standard and Embracing Equality and Diversity and Human Rights Policy.

Within the ‘Fairer Scotland for Disabled People Delivery plan’ - we have also given a specific commitment to provide further tools and guidance to support Health Boards to increase the number of people with learning disabilities employed by them.
