S5O-00561: Margaret Mitchell (Central Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 11 January 2017

To ask the Scottish Government what it is doing to help identify and support children with dyslexia.

Answered by: John Swinney 18 January 2017

Education authorities have a statutory duty to identify, meet, and review, the additional support needs of all pupils, including those with dyslexia.

To help all teachers address the needs of pupils with dyslexia, the Scottish Government supported the development of the 'Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit'. The Toolkit includes:

Materials on effectively identifying and supporting pupils;

Increased accessibility for teachers; and

Information for education authorities on implementation of the Toolkit

I am also delighted to announce that the Toolkit is currently being refreshed and I intend to launch the updated toolkit in March. The refresh will ensure that the content of the Toolkit remains the most current and up-to-date resource for supporting Scottish children and young people with dyslexia.
