S5W-05295: Ross Thomson (North East Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 1 December 2016

To ask the Scottish Government how many teacher vacancies in (a) Aberdeen City, (b) Aberdeenshire and (c) Angus are expected to be filled as a result of the £1 million allocation from the Attainment Scotland Fund to recruit new teachers.

Answered by: John Swinney 13 December 2016

We expect that at least 200 student teachers will be recruited through the new routes. However, the employment of teachers is a matter for local authorities and its not possible for the Scottish Government to determine how many vacancies in individual authorities will be filled as a result of this initiative.
