S5W-03772: Tavish Scott (Shetland Islands)

Scottish Liberal Democrats

Date lodged: 14 October 2016

To ask the Scottish Government whether it considers that the original target of the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme with BT was too low.

Answered by: Fergus Ewing 31 October 2016

The Scottish Government does not consider that the original target of the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme with BT was too low.

The approach taken across both contracts was to maximise fibre broadband coverage within the available budget. This delivered higher than anticipated coverage across the board, with 95% of premises having fibre access, compared to just 66% through commercial investment.
