S5W-01752: Tavish Scott (Shetland Islands)

Scottish Liberal Democrats

Date lodged: 2 August 2016

To ask the Scottish Government how many staff are receiving training in the implementation of welfare payments ahead of the transfer of powers on 5 September 2016.

Answered by: Jeane Freeman 22 August 2016

For social security, this stage of transfer focusses around the powers to create new benefits or top up existing ones and not around the transition of benefits currently being paid to people in Scotland. All the changes will be implemented on a phased basis over the coming years and we will work with the UK Government to ensure the transfer of powers takes place as quickly as possible, but with the clear premise that our top priority is the safe and secure transfer of these powers. All of the staff engaged in the implementation of the newly devolved social security powers will take part in appropriate training and development as required over this period of transition.
