S5W-01715: Mike Rumbles (North East Scotland)

Scottish Liberal Democrats

Date lodged: 29 July 2016

To ask the Scottish Government what proportion of the funding available for the Young Farmers Start Up Grant has already being allocated; how this will impact on applications to the Scottish Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, and whether it will make additional funds available to ensure that new applicants receive an assessment and grant that is in line with prior applications.

Answered by: Fergus Ewing 18 August 2016

Under the Scottish Rural Development Programme 2014-20, £6 million was allocated to the Young Farmer Start-up Grant Scheme. To date £5.23 million has been committed to fund 90 successful applications. The current funding round opened on the 1 July 2016. Given the popularity of the scheme we are currently examining options to provide additional funding.
