Question
To ask the Scottish Government whether it has made an assessment of the prevalence of adult obesity since it published its strategy, A Healthier Future: Scotland's Diet and Healthy Weight Delivery Plan.
Answer
The 2019 Scottish Health Survey, published in September 2020, reported that 29% of adults in Scotland were living with obesity. The Survey is at https://www.gov.scot/publications/scottish-health-survey-2019-volume-1-main-report/
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Scottish Health Survey, published in January 2021, introduced a shortened telephone version for adults aged 16 and over. Interviews were conducted during August and September 2020 rather than over twelve months. The 2020 Scottish Health Survey reported that 28% of adults in Scotland were living with obesity. The Survey is at https://www.gov.scot/publications/scottish-health-survey-telephone-survey-august-september-2020-main-report/
We will continue to assess the prevalence of adult obesity in Scotland through the Scottish Health Survey.
