  • Submitted by: Gail Ross, Caithness, Sutherland and Ross, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 05 February 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24082
  • Current status: Achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament recognises Girlguiding Scotland’s recent report, Girls in Scotland 2020, which explored the opinions and experiences of girls and young women living in Scotland today; notes that the report surveyed 527 girls and young women in Scotland from the ages of 7 to 21; understands that the report identified that many girls and young women face gender inequalities such as 43% of respondents feeling that there are certain subjects and careers they’re expected to pursue because they are female; acknowledges with concern that many young women and girls in Scotland, including in the Caithness, Sutherland and Ross constituency, feel excluded from educational, career, and recreational opportunities due to their gender, and praises the thorough work of Girlguiding Scotland in publishing the report.
