The Nairnshire Telegraph Closes After 180 Years

  • Submitted by: David Stewart, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 22 January 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-23932

That the Parliament recognises the crucial contribution that was made by The Nairnshire Telegraph to the community; notes that this excellent and well-respected family-owned newspaper has closed after 180 years in business, citing retirement and the COVID-19 pandemic among the reasons for its decision to cease publication; acknowledges that its consistent theme was "to defend Nairn and Nairnshire against the inexorable loss of its civic identity and to promote projects, such as the Nairn bypass”, and recognises the efforts made by all of its staff and the proprietor, Iain Bain, to serve the Nairn population well throughout the years.
