Children’s Mental Health Week 2021

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 18 January 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-23889

That the Parliament welcomes Children’s Mental Health Week 2021, which runs from 1 to 7 February and will involve people, schools, youth groups and other organisations across the UK; acknowledges that the theme is Express Yourself and is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas through creativity, including through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, or by taking part in activities that improve wellbeing; notes that the first Children’s Mental Health Week was organised in 2015 by the charity, Place2Be, to shine a spotlight on the issue; understands that it has been estimated that three children in every primary school class have a mental health problem and that many more struggle with challenges such as bullying and bereavement; applauds the work of Place2Be as a leading provider of school-based mental health support by offering a whole-school, child-centred approach to over 22,000 pupils and their families in schools across Scotland, and sends its best wishes to all involved with this year's awareness week.
