Knighthood for Professor Gerry McCormac, University of Stirling Principal and Vice-Chancellor

That the Parliament congratulates Professor Gerry McCormac, who is the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stirling, on being appointed a Knight Bachelor in the 2021 New Year Honours in recognition of his inspirational leadership in higher education and the major contribution that the University make to the area it serves, including Bridge of Allan, and the Scottish and UK economies; acknowledges that Sir Gerry has served in his current role since 2010 and was elected Convener of Universities Scotland in 2020; believes that Stirling is an international university with a pioneering spirit and a global reputation for high-quality teaching and research and is recognised as a place where ability and not background is valued; acknowledges that Sir Gerry has also been recognised as being instrumental in his contribution to the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal, and commends him on his leadership at the University.
