Centrica Negotiations

  • Submitted by: Pauline McNeill, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 14 December 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23680

That the Parliament notes reports of confirmation by the Scottish Gas owner, Centrica, that all employees must sign up to new terms and conditions before Christmas or face being losing their jobs and being rehired on what it considers lesser terms and conditions; understands that Centrica’s new terms and conditions have already been rejected by 86% of GMB Union members in engineering roles, with them voting against the company’s offer, which GMB has described as representing around a 10% reduction in pay; further understands that a ballot for industrial action is currently ongoing and could lead to strike action in the New Year resulting in loss of income for Scottish Gas employees and detriment to the services that they provide and which Scottish Gas customers rely on; welcomes the reported comments by the First Minister on 3 December 2020 that Centrica should return to negotiation with its recognised trade unions, and calls on Centrica to remove the threat of job losses and rehiring.
