Cuts to Overseas Aid Budget

  • Submitted by: David Stewart, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 03 December 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23591

That the Parliament expresses concern at reports that the UK Government plans to reduce the overseas aid budget from 0.7% of GDP to 0.5%; calls on the UK Government to reconsider these plans as, it believes, this will impact millions of people in the world’s most deprived places through not having access to clean water, children not being able to have vaccinations and there being a disproportionate impact on the education of girls; considers that the COVID-19 pandemic has already had a devastating impact on the world’s poorest communities, and believes that such a decision will only exacerbate them further.
