Children's Charity Charlie House Secures New Specialist Support Centre

  • Submitted by: Mark McDonald, Aberdeen Donside, Independent.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 01 December 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23549

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement by the children’s charity, Charlie House, that it has secured planning permission for its specialist support centre; understands that the centre will be built within the grounds of Woodend Hospital, and that the new complex will boast an eight-bedroom centre with additional family accommodation set in four acres of ground; acknowledges that the state-of-the-art building will include a sensory room, library, spa pool, craft room, teen den, soft play area, therapy room, outdoor play area and sensory garden, end-of-life care and bereavement rooms and office space for the Charlie House team and medical staff; celebrates that the new build will be the first of its kind in the north east of Scotland, with families currently having to travel over 100 miles to Kinross to access short break opportunities and palliative and end-of-life care; believes that the charity has so far raised £2.4 million of its £8 million fundraising target, and anticipates that more funding grants will become available now that Aberdeen City Council has finalised the planning permission.
