Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week

  • Submitted by: Pauline McNeill, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 30 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23530

That the Parliament welcomes Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week; notes the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on timely diagnosis, access to specialist advice, investigations and surgery; appreciates the care provided by healthcare professionals in IBD services during the pandemic and thanks them for rapidly altering the way that they delivered care by offering patients a range of options, such as telephone clinics and the use of NHS Near Me technology; recognises the role of Crohn’s & Colitis UK in providing essential information and support to individuals and families; calls on the Scottish Government to support the implementation of the 2019 IBD Standards, and urges it to ensure that IBD services in all NHS boards are adequately resourced and that endoscopy and surgery for Crohn’s and colitis are prioritised appropriately alongside other conditions, given the significant implications of delaying this.
