  • Submitted by: Linda Fabiani, East Kilbride, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 30 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23522

That the Parliament notes that Whitelee windfarm has been named as the UK’s favourite windfarm in the Wind World Cup; notes that the competition took place during Wind Week; understands that Whitelee is the UK’s largest onshore windfarm, and has produced the clean energy equivalent of saving over five million tonnes of carbon emissions from fossil fuels; notes that it produced enough clean energy in the last year to power every electric vehicle in the UK; acknowledges what it sees as the contribution that Whitelee and ScottishPower Renewables have made to the economy, with a reported boost of over £790 million over the life of the windfarm; understands that the facility attracts 200,000 people each year from East Kilbride and beyond to explore the 130km of trails on foot, bike or horse, and welcomes its community benefit fund, which has disbursed over £11.6 million to community projects.
