#MakeAmazonPay

  • Submitted by: Neil Bibby, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 30 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23515

That the Parliament acknowledges and supports the #MakeAmazonPay campaign being run by the GMB union and the Global Trade Union Amazon Alliance, which represents Amazon workers in 22 countries across five continents; understands that Amazon payed only £6.3 million in UK corporation tax last year despite sales of over £13 billion; further understands that, while Amazon is now worth more than $1 trillion, there remain far too many reports of inadequate health and safety protections in its warehouse and distribution networks, and its global carbon footprint continues to grow, and therefore calls on Amazon to pay its workers fairly, pay for its impact on the environment, end what it sees as its hostility to union organising and pay increased taxes.
