LGIU and CCLA Awards Ceremony

  • Submitted by: Emma Harper, South Scotland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 30 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23510

That the Parliament congratulates the South Ayrshire councillors, Laura Brennan-Whitfield and Siobhian Brown, on jointly winning the Collaborative Working Award at the 2020 LGIU and CLLA Councillor Awards Ceremony; understands that both councillors won the award in recognition of their teamwork in organising the Wallacetown Action Group, which has given their residents a stronger voice and forum through which to voice their concerns and to hold the Council and its agencies to account; understands that the judges admired how both councillors utilised the existing strengths within a fragile community to build and develop skills and to promote inclusive growth; understands that the Awards are now in their third year and showcase the best of local government, and considers that, particularly at a time when the country faces one of the greatest hardships of everyone's lifetime, now, more than ever, everyone needs to recognise the unsung heroes of local government who are working tirelessly to keep the country afloat during the pandemic, and wishes all of the councillors who received awards success for the future.
