  • Submitted by: Rhoda Grant, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 24 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23459

That the Parliament celebrates the Port of Cromarty Firth’s win in the Coastal Powerhouse and Business of the Year categories at the Maritime UK Awards after facing considerable competition from other candidates, including major UK port groups; welcomes this recognition of the significant contribution that the Port makes to the local, regional and national economies, with an estimated value of £275 million per year, supporting one in six local jobs; notes that its recent infrastructure investments, which have been targeted at the offshore renewables, oil and gas and cruise markets, were praised for helping to create first-class modern facilities and for generating supply chain opportunities; understands that the Opportunity Cromarty Firth initiative, which is developing bids for Freeport status, was also featured in the entries for these awards and received recognition for the anticipated benefits that the project will aim to provide, including accelerating the deployment, increasing the innovation and reducing the cost of the sustainable pipeline of renewable energy projects taking place across Scotland, and congratulates the staff and management at the Port on this success.
