Milngavie Brother and Sister Raise Funds for Nepal School Rebuilding

  • Submitted by: Gil Paterson, Clydebank and Milngavie, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 23 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23446

That the Parliament commends the Milngavie Primary School pupils, Callum Dolan, aged nine, and his sister, Eilidh, aged seven, for raising £800 for a project run by the University of Strathclyde to rebuild a school in Nepal, which was destroyed by the earthquake of 2015; understands that the siblings cycled more than 50 miles for the Nepal 2020 Challenge, which is raising money to build a new, seismic-proof school in Nuwakot; notes that, since 8,000 schools were destroyed by the earthquake, thousands of children are currently being taught in unsuitable temporary classrooms, and many end up dropping out of education due to this; thanks Callum and Eilidh for their fundraising efforts, and wishes the team at the University of Strathclyde all the best with the project.
