EMMS International Launches Every Girl Matters Appeal

  • Submitted by: Jeremy Balfour, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 20 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23433

That the Parliament congratulates EMMS International and INF Nepal on the opening of the palliative care centre of excellence in Pokhara Nepal, the first of its kind in western Nepal; further congratulates EMMS International on the public launch of its Every Girl Matters appeal to raise funds for a three-year project whereby people in Nepal needing palliative care will receive it close to home; notes that donations to the appeal from the public are being matched by the UK Aid Match programme of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK Government; further notes that the project, designed to directly help 199,620 people in Nepal, will also give young carers the opportunity to continue in school and benefit from the opportunities brought by education, and acknowledges that the project is based on three strategies, which are leaving no one behind by ensuring nobody must choose between the health of a loved one and the education of their children, which can help to transform girls' lives, ensuring quality clinical services and access to medication, and generating evidence and influencing policy.
