  • Submitted by: David Stewart, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 17 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23394
  • Current status: Has not yet achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament welcomes the work of Opportunity Cromarty Firth and other ports in Scotland in developing bids for Freeport status; notes what it considers the opportunity for Scotland to capitalise on high-wage, skilled jobs, advanced manufacturing and high productivity supply chain potential from the world-leading offshore wind plans for Scottish waters; recognises the opportunity for a green economic recovery and sustainable innovative jobs from port-related activity in supporting the Scottish Government's net-zero targets for carbon emissions, and notes the calls on the Scottish Government to work in partnership with the UK Government on freeports, which it considers could help attract inward investment, generate skilled jobs, establish high-tech manufacturing facilities, position Scotland at the global forefront of green hydrogen and floating offshore wind technologies, accelerate offshore wind deployment and ensure Scotland and the UK benefit from new business growth.
