Parkinson’s UK's Get It On Time Campaign

  • Submitted by: Jackie Baillie, Dumbarton, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 26 October 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23137

That the Parliament believes that the Parkinson’s UK Get It On Time campaign should be supported and that all hospitals and care homes in Scotland should ensure that every person with Parkinson’s receives their medication on time, every time; understands that there are around 12,000 people in Scotland living with the condition, and that numbers continue to rise every year, which makes the question of timely support and medication provision particularly urgent; believes that there are around 215 people with Parkinson's in hospital wards in Scotland on any given day, and that less than half will get their medication on time, which results in more than 100,000 medication errors per year; understands that inappropriate medication management does not only adversely affect the health and wellbeing of people with Parkinson’s, but also creates an additional financial burden for the NHS; welcomes the recommendations to enable electronic prescribing, staff training, self-administration of medicines and access to support services for people with Parkinson’s to eliminate poor medication management in hospitals and care homes, and calls on the Scottish Government to support the implementation of the Get It On Time Campaign.
