OPITO, Renewable Energy Sector

That the Parliament welcomes OPITO’s first steps into the renewable energy sector; understands that this includes a focus on products to develop a flexible workforce equipped to support an integrated, low-carbon energy system; notes that OPITO will initially concentrate on the offshore wind sector, which is anticipated to create 27,000 highly-skilled roles in the UK by 2030, with its products designed to assist learners attain skills across various aspects of the sector, including scoping and development, construction, operations and maintenance activities; recognises that the Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training for Renewable Energy standard will be particularly effective for people seeking to enter or transition into the renewable energy industry, with refresher courses available for people already in the offshore wind sector; notes that beginners will be able to work towards two SCQF-accredited training qualifications, an introduction to mechanical and electrical engineering and renewable energy foundation training, which can be used by employers that wish to develop their workforce; understands that these products will help address climate change, energy security and affordability of supply, alongside the development of a multi-skilled energy workforce, and passes on its congratulations and best wishes to OPITO.
