Inverclyde Group Named Scottish Men’s Shed of the Year

  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 28 September 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22853

That the Parliament congratulates Inverclyde Shed on being named Scottish Men’s Shed of the Year; believes that this is testament to the work of the community organisation to use traditional skilled pursuits to tackle loneliness within Inverclyde; understands that there are currently 45 active voting members and almost 500 associate members involved in the group; notes that, as well as winning this national honour, Inverclyde Shed will receive a cash prize and a free or discounted woodwork training day for its members; hopes that this achievement will help raise the group’s profile and attract more people to the organisation; appreciates the efforts of Inverclyde Shed to help reduce social isolation within Inverclyde, therefore contributing to people’s physical and mental wellbeing and developing the capacity of local people to share their skills and knowledge with others in the community, and wishes the group all the best for the future.
