  • Submitted by: Shona Robison, Dundee City East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 21 September 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22756

That the Parliament applauds the success of Dundee’s Abertay University in being awarded the title of UK University of the Year for Teaching Quality in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021; welcomes the recognition that the university has received for both the quality of teaching, with a positive score of 87%, alongside a score of 81.2% for student experience; notes that the award recognises the role that the university has played in making Dundee a national and international centre for the video gaming industry and computing, citing the university's new cyberQuarter hub, which opens in the 2020-21 academic year and through which the university aims to seed new companies and help existing ones grow locally, nationally and globally; believes that, as a result of the work of the university globally, more and more companies are looking to Dundee as a place to set up business, driving inward investment and providing local employment opportunities helping to further Dundee’s growing reputation as one of the best cities to live and work in, and extends its congratulations to all those who have made this possible.
