PET Scanner for NHS Highland

  • Submitted by: David Stewart, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 17 September 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22743
  • Current status: Achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament recognises what it considers are the benefits of PET scanners being used in the diagnosis of cancer and dementia; understands that Raigmore Hospital in Inverness is the only Oncology Centre in Scotland without such a scanner; notes that nearly 300 patients travel outside the NHS Highland area every year to receive such a scan; believes that the number of people in the Highlands who would benefit from this type of treatment is higher as some cannot travel to Aberdeen or the central belt to receive it; considers that having this service available in the NHS Highland area would be of great benefit, and notes calls for the Scottish Government to allocate initial capital investment to provide a PET scanner for NHS Highland.
