Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey

  • Submitted by: Shona Robison, Dundee City East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 15 September 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22722

That the Parliament welcomes the publication on 15 September 2020 of the analysis of the free text comments in the second Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey (SCPES), which is jointly funded by the Scottish Government and Macmillan Cancer Support; acknowledges that over 5,000 people gave feedback on various aspects of their care, including diagnosis, treatment and support; notes that positive comments were generally characterised by references to good support, good clinical care, efficient process and access to sufficient and relevant information; acknowledges that the survey results also provide important information about areas where improvements can be made, including directing more people to available support during and after their treatment; considers that, although the survey, was carried out prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the results are a valuable tool as the country rebuilds services; supports the Scottish Government National Recovery Plan for cancer services, which is due to be published in the autumn; hopes that the Recovery Plan will build on these SCPES findings, and the existing national commitments in the Scottish Cancer Strategy to deliver fully-personalised care, and thanks everyone who took the time to complete the survey.
