Support Stranraer

  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 10 September 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22696

That the Parliament commends Stranraer Development Trust for its upcoming "Support Stranraer" campaign to get people to support the economy of the town, as well as encouraging residents to keep up the good work in supporting each other during these challenging times; understands that Stranraer was awarded £12,500 as part of the Scotland Loves Local campaign; welcomes this initiative, noting the return of the annual Oyster Festival, which has been greatly missed as a landmark feature of Stranraer’s cultural heritage and local produce prowess; believes that this community-led action is great news for the town, putting it back on the map as the recovery from the effects of COVID-19 continues, and is testament to the ability of the Development Trust to bring this campaign together; thanks everyone involved in organising "Support Stranraer", and encourages local people to get behind the campaign.
