Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight 2020

  • Submitted by: Elaine Smith, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 28 August 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22579

That the Parliament celebrates the annual Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight, which this year takes place from 5 to 20 September 2020; understands that the fortnight is an annual celebration of Scotland’s food and drink sector that aims to shine a spotlight on the industry and encourage people to support Scottish food and drink; recognises that the focus of this year’s Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight is the "food heroes" of the COVID-19 pandemic who helped feed those in need, inspired us with their food ideas and shared their skills and produce; pays tribute to all who have kept Scotland’s food system running throughout the crisis; believes that recent events have highlighted the need for food supply to be more prominently featured in emergency planning to ensure that the right to access adequate and nutritious food is not infringed during future crises; understands that enshrining a right to food into law in Scotland would enable food policy to be given the priority that it considers it deserves, and encourages all interested people and organisations to visit righttofoodscotland.wixsite.com/righttofood and respond to the member's bill consultation on enshrining a right to food into Scots Law before the 15 September deadline.
