That the Parliament congratulates the MND Scotland chairman, Lawrence Cowan, on being shortlisted in the charity champion category of the 2020 SCVO Scottish Charity Awards; recognises that Lawrence has helped raise more than £700,000 for research into motor neurone disease (MND) and believes that he has worked tirelessly to campaign to bring drugs trials to Scotland; understands that this work was an extremely personal challenge for Lawrence, after his friend, the campaigner. Gordon Aikman, died in 2017, aged just 31; considers that Lawrence’s campaigning played a significant part in the launch of the UK’s biggest MND drugs trial and that, during his leadership of MND Scotland, the charity achieved its highest income to date and invested £1.5 million into the pioneering drugs trial, MND-SMART, the largest investment into research the charity has ever made; congratulates all those shortlisted for the charity champion award, and thanks them for the contribution they make.
