  • Date lodged: Friday, 07 August 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22380

That the Parliament congratulates the former Braes High School pupil, Nicola McRae, on receiving the 2020 Dennis Canavan Scholarship; understands that Falkirk Council launched the scholarship in 2006 to mark Mr Canavan’s service to Falkirk district as MP and MSP; notes that the scholarship recognises an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to voluntary work, charity sponsorship, sports coaching or has made a contribution to international development; recognises that Nicola was nominated as she has given notable service to others through her voluntary work, mentoring, charity sponsorship, sports coaching and immersing herself in the life of the school, including being a volunteer mentor with Braes High School’s Talk to Me initiative, a volunteer with the Rookie Lifeguard club and taking part in a three-week World Challenge to Tanzania; further recognises that, before the ceremony on 4 August 2020, Nicola was accepted to the University of Dundee to study medicine, and wishes her the very best for the future.
