Bloomin’ Bo’ness, Bridgend Community Growing Success

  • Submitted by: Michelle Thomson, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 30 April 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13051

That the Parliament congratulates Bloomin' Bo’ness on its recent creation of a valuable community growing space in Bridgeness; understands that the project has transformed the former disused tennis courts at Bridgeness Bowling Club into an area for raised beds to be used by members of the community; further understands that a new polytunnel on the site will enable the group to grow its own plants for the flower beds and baskets that it looks after across Bo’ness during the summer months; congratulates the group on its recent award of charity status, and hopes that this will enable new opportunities for its activities to grow; acknowledges what it sees as the hard work of the many volunteers who have contributed their time to keep Bo’ness blooming; further acknowledges what it considers to be the generous donations from local businesses and organisations, including the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway, which contributed 140 used sleepers for the construction of the raised beds; recognises what it sees as the valuable contribution of this activity to the enjoyment of local people and enhancement of the environment, and wishes the group all the best for the future.
